R&B star Akon shared how Eminem got on his hit song "Smack That" back in 2006, and revealed that they recorded four other songs that might just see the light of day soon.
The 49-year-old singer explained that he produced all the songs he released, except for the highly successful "Smack That."
"Eminem produced that record. Isn't that crazy? He always had them small little sounds, it was something minute, but it felt like Eminem," he said.
According to reports, the rapper gave Akon a folder with 30 songs, and he chose five. Among the five was "Smack That," which ultimately became the song they released, as they kept the rest in the vault.
"Once he heard my concept to it, he was like, 'Yo, I'm jumping on this one'. And I said, 'You know what, if he jumps on this one, this will be a single,'" he continued.
"Smack That" became part of Akon's second studio album, "Konvicted," released in 2006. It topped several charts including the Billboard Hot 100, where it peaked at number two, and spent a total of 30 weeks on the chart.
Unreleased
Since there are still four songs that neither Akon nor Eminem has released, they have been kept all these years in their musical vault unbeknownst to fans.
To the fans, "Smack That" was the only song the two collaborated on. However, Akon hinted that the unreleased songs might just get to see the light of day.
"And that's the only one we ever had together, besides all those we did," he said, referring to "Smack That."
"But I still have them. I literally still have those records today. These are all the records that's gonna drop in the future."
While the singer has relatively stayed out of the music scene in recent years, he might just make his comeback with the unreleased songs.
Akon, born Aliaune Damala Badara Akon Thiam, rose to prominence in 2004 when he released "Locked Up," a song off his debut studio album, "Trouble."
His sophomore album created more waves in the R&B music scene, bringing in several nominations including Best Contemporary R&B Album and Best Rap/Sung Collaboration from the Grammy Awards.
Aside from a successful music career, he also founded two record labels Konvict Muzik and KonLive Distribution.
