Jana Kramer joins Jada Pinkett Smith at the "Red Table Talk" to share her experience of divorcing Mike Caussin after six years of marriage and how she is dealing with the aftermath.
"I know we're both in better situations," the 38-year-old country singer told Pinkett Smith as she started tearing up.
"But I think about this year, my kids won't wake up in my house on Christmas day. That one's gonna hurt," she added.
Kramer married Caussin in 2015, and share two children together, Jolie Rae and Joseph.
According to reports, the two had a whirlwind romance. They started dating in August 2014. They eventually got married five months after the engagement.
'Not Fair'
During her interview with Pinkett Smith, she got emotional talking about how Caussin cheated on her with "more" than 13 people.
"That's when I get like, that's not fair," she said. "You took away my dream too of what I wanted for my family. That's not fair."
To which Pinkett Smith sympathetically replied, "that's a hard one. When your familial dreams coincide with childhood trauma."
The "One Tree Hill" star also shared the promises her ex-husband would tell her every time she caught him having an affair.
"[He'd say] 'I'm gonna get baptized' or 'I'm gonna go to therapy every week' or 'I'm gonna go to a meeting."
"It's like, 'I'm never gonna do it again with the next one because now I'm gonna be a better man.' I'm like, 'Oh, I want that better man.'"
Eventually, she had enough of the broken promises and excuses, "finally the last time, last April when I caught him again, he's like, 'Now I know that I'll never do it again.' And I'm like, 'And you know what? For that person, she's gonna be real lucky that you won't.' And that's when I left."
Divorce
In April 2021, Kramer filed for divorce from the NFL player, citing "inappropriate marital conduct, irreconcilable differences, and adultery."
In an Instagram post, she lamented the end of her marriage and her efforts of repairing it prior to the filing of the divorce.
"I've fought y'all. I loved hard. I've forgiven. I've put the work in. I've given everything I have, and now I have nothing else to give," she wrote. "It's time."
"Please know that I still believe wholeheartedly in marriage, love, and rebuilding,' she continued. "I just can't fight any longer. It's time to heal."
The divorce did not come as a surprise, because according to reports, Kramer gave Caussin an "ultimatum" when she found out about his affairs.
"Jana kind of gave me an ultimatum when everything came out, and she discovered everything, and she looked at me and said, 'You need to go somewhere. Basically, you need to figure out what's going on and what this is, or I'm gone, period,'" he said.
"I had so much shame about my behavior for years and I was like, there's no way God is going to accept me with the things that I've done."
