Unfortunately for Kanye West, one of his most important fashion industry ties has ended: Balenciaga has fired the controversial musician.
According to Women's Wear Daily, Kering, the French fashion firm parent business of the high-fashion brand, issued a statement saying, "Balenciaga has no longer any contact with this artist, nor any intentions for future initiatives associated to this artist."
This follows the release of its third-quarter results. According to the magazine, the French luxury group's sales increased by 23% in the third quarter.
During the Paris Fashion Week, the "Donda" rapper introduced Balenciaga's summer 2023 show, which featured a mud pit. He was dressed in what seemed to be war gear, including a mouthguard that protected his teeth.
The image, however, has since been taken from Balenciaga's website.
It was his latest collaboration with the brand's artistic director Demna, following the release of their collaboration, the Yeezy Gap Engineered by Balenciaga collection, earlier this year in conjunction with Kanye's "Donda 2" experiential performance in Miami.
Demna was apparently the creative director for a previous record listening event last year.
Balenciaga's decision to terminate relations with Kanye West follows his recent anti-Semitic rants, as he continues to promote clichés and conspiracy theories.
He openly attacked "Jewish media" and "Jewish Zionists" for a number of alleged wrongdoings, claiming that "Jewish people have owned the Black voice," and that the Jewish community, "particularly in the music industry...they'll take us and milk us till we die."
Kanye West ended his deal with Gap Inc last month, suggesting a more hostile attitude that placed his 10-year association with Adidas in jeopardy.
The relationship, which is apparently valued billions of dollars, is stated to be "under review."
