Just a few days after the release of her new album, "Midnights," Taylor Swift joined Bon Iver for a surprise performance of their duet "Exile" on Oct. 26 at the OVO Arena Wembley in London.
The pair were accompanied by The National's Aaron Dessner who happened to produce the song with Swift, as well as the album from which "Exile" comes, "Folklore," released in 2020, and its sister album "Evermore," released later that same year.
"Exile" is a song from Swift's eighth studio album, "Folklore," and it featured Bon Iver. The band's frontman Justin Vernon sang opposite Swift.
This is not the first time the two performed the song, because they had performed it once before for the Disney+ documentary concert film "Folklore: The Long Pond Studio Sessions," although it was done virtually, reports say.
Fans React
This marks their first live performance of the song, which astounded fans. A video that showed a small portion of the performance was filmed and uploaded on Twitter by writer Emily Zemler.
"Taylor Swift just came out with Bon Iver in London and it was honestly epic," she wrote in the caption.
Swift's loyal fanbase, called Swifties, could not contain their excitement as the multi-awarded singer-songwriter appeared for the first time to perform in quite some time.
"When the song started, me and my friend were like 'I know this song, is it a cover?' ..'No, no, it's a movie soundtrack'... 'nah man, I think it's a pop cover. Like a Taylor Swift tune or something'... and then Taylor Swift came on stage," a concert-goer wrote about the night," a concert-goer tweeted.
"Fatal levels of jealousy. Thanks for the clip," another wrote.
A fan commented on the performance, "Oh this sounds amazing live. I need it to be in the tour setlist."
According to reports, Bon Iver has been touring UK and Ireland for the last few days. The aforementioned concert is the second night of their back-to-back show at the Wembley Arena. The band will continue with their tour to the rest of Europe the following week.
On the other hand, the surprise performance comes shortly after the release of her tenth studio album.
Fans were also pleasantly surprised to have Dessner with the pair onstage, as he is a frequent collaborator to the 32-year-old singer. In "Midnights," he reportedly co-produced and co-wrote "The Great War," "High Infidelity," "Would've, Could've, Should've," as well as the bonus track "Hits Different."
