DJ Walsh, popularly known for being one of the pioneers of dubstep in the world of electronic dance music, passed away at the age of 40.
His sudden death was confirmed in a post on his official Instagram account, "It's with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved son and brother Darren Walsh."
The music producer reportedly died on October 16, 2022. The post, which was written by his sister, did not specify the cause of his passing.
It was a hard time for his family as the date of his death also falls on the same day their father passed away six years prior.
Who Was DJ Walsh?
DJ Walsh, whose real name is Darren, was described as someone who pioneered the genre of dubstep in the EDM world together with several other artists in Croydon.
According to DJ Mag, the producer has collaborated with several musicians like Kromestar, Benton, Benga, and many more. He also released songs under the record labels like Hotflush and his own Biscuit Factory.
Growing up, DJ Walsh became exposed to the dance music scene during the early 2000s as the genre of dark garage started dominating the United Kingdom. The genre eventually progressed into dubstep, where he is more known.
He teamed up with another DJ and producer named N-Type to play for the London-based radio station Delight 103.00FM. The two happened two be childhood friends.
They became successful in the coming years after collaborating together as they were two of the producers who paved the way for the dubstep genre. The pair later had regular slots on GetDarker and Rinse FM.
N-Type Pays Tribute to DJ Walsh
Since DJ N-Type was one of his closest friends, the producer took to his official Instagram account to pay tribute to his good pal.
He noted that writing the post was one of the most difficult things he had ever done as he tremendously loved his friend.
Recalling their memories together, the musician noted that the late DJ was his friend since they were 12 years old and he had been on his side when he needs him.
"We saw the birth of the music we loved Dubstep and was a part of its growth. We DJ'd, raved and lived it up! You are loved by so many and hands down one of the best DJs ever! My brother sleep well mate," he added.
