Rapper Mac Andre, who authorities claim was also a part of a robbery group, was shot dead in Kansas City on November 1, 2004.
Andre Hicks, 34, was murdered at 3:30 a.m. when another automobile drew up behind the driver's side of the van he was in and began firing.
According to Billboard, the vehicle veered into the highway median, onto the southbound lanes, and down a steep hillside.
The underground rapper was thrown from the van, but he had already dead from the shooting, according to officials. The driver crawled from the mangled automobile and began walking for assistance.
Though he was not well-known outside of California's Bay Area, he was a hip-hop phenomenon.
His killer is still on the run eighteen years later, and the case remains unresolved.
Following his death, suspicions spread about who killed the artist, and three additional killings were reported by authorities.
Cops believe Mac Dre was shot in a financial disagreement, but legend has it that it was related to West-Midwest rivalry. According to one legend, Fat Tone was responsible for his death.
According to SF Gate, six months later, hip-hop promoter Mac Minister, real name Andrew Dow, and a buddy allegedly avenged Mac Dre's murder in Las Vegas by firing 33 assault-rifle bullets into two guys, including Fat Tone.
Two days later, Lee Laursen, a 21-year-old prostitute who was with them in Las Vegas, was shot in the head and murdered.
Accusations that Fat Tone murdered Mac Dre were shown to be false. He was finally free of the rapper's death.
However, one of the killings, which included an alleged retaliation killing of the individuals suspected of being engaged with Mac Dre, was solved.
Mac Minister has been in prison for 16 years for a double homicide he claims he did not commit.
He told the San Francisco Standard that his life had been a living nightmare since a crucial witness lied to him during his trial, resulting in a life sentence.
According to the prosecution, Mac Minister and another individual enticed two guys to Las Vegas in May 2005 by allegedly promising them a meeting with Snoop Dogg.
However, the authorities subsequently claimed that it was a trap, and Mac Minister and the man shot the guys in an isolated spot to avenge Mac Dre's murder.
Posthumously, Mac Dre released three albums: "Judge Dre Mathis" in 2005, "Pill Clinton" in 2007, and "Dre Day: July 5th, 1970" in 2008.
