Singer Davido and his fiancée, Chioma Rowland, lost their son Ifeanyi in a horrifying event. He was 3.
Associated Press reported on Tuesday that Davido's son Ifeanyi passed away while staying at their family's home in Lagos. The 3-year-old died in an apparent drowning on Monday night.
As quoted by PEOPLE, the confirmation revealed that the 29-year-old Afrobeat star was not at his home at the time of the incident. Meanwhile, eight members of his home staff have since given their statements to the investigators as the probe to determine what happened remains underway.
Ifeanyi was Davido's first son with his fiancée, Chioma Rowland. He is also a father to three more children from his previous relationships.
Amid the investigation, BBC shared the statement by police spokesman Benjamin Hundeyin. He revealed that the investigators started reviewing the CCTV cameras in the hopes of obtaining new information about his death.
Hundeyin added that the child's body has been sent to the morgue. Davido and Rowland were reported with them after the incident.
Ifeanyi's death occurred weeks after they celebrated his 3rd birthday on October 20. At that time, Davido penned a heartfelt message to his son to mark his special day.
"I pray with all my heart that God grants you perfect health and pure happiness for as long as humanly possible. You will grow to be greater than Me, Happy birthday, son @davidifeanyiadeleke !!! #BIG3," he captioned the post.
His fans and friends also extended their condolences to the family.
The tragedy happened years after Davido extended his condolences to singer D'banj, who lost his 13th-month-old son after facing a similar incident.
