After performing with Drake (and special guest 50 Cent) in Hartford, Connecticut last night, Lil Wayne stopped by the ESPN HQ in Bristol this morning to reveal the cover and release date of his forthcoming Tha Carter V.
He sat down with First Take's Skip Bayless, Cari Champion, and Steve A. Smith to talk about his plans for the album then decided to perform a freestyle riff of the SportsCenter theme (not to be confused with his song "SportsCenter.").
Before he launched into the freestyle, however, he admitted that he was nervous to do it.
"It's called freestyling, and I'm so not good at it," he said. "I'm good at rapping not freestyling."
Once the theme song came on, though, he jumped right in.
"Ok, I don't, I don't give a football about what y'all think about Lil Tune, I'm just hoping that it's good thoughts, yeah, entertainment sports on your network," he rapped. "I love top 10 plays, yessir, best work, live on TV, mama told me wear a dress shirt, instead I wrote a t-shirt, Michael Jordan sneakers, Red Sox ball cap, my dreadlocks fall back. I still think I'm fly. Show me where the tarmac?"
As Vibe points out, the ESPN reveal falls in line with Wayne's recent sports-related roll out plan for the album. He previously enlisted the likes of Floyd Mayweather, Kobe Bryant, and Kevin Durant to release certain details about the upcoming effort.
Wayne's Tha Carter V is due out October 28. It will feature his recent single "Krazy" as well as the Drake-assisted "Believe Me" and "Grindin'."
