88Rising fans are getting a big treat from Joji before the year ends as the former YouTube content creator dropped his latest album titled "Smithereens."
According to Complex, his latest project was highly-anticipated by his supporters as his last record, "Nectar," was released two years prior.
Aside from a brand new album, the musician also dropped the visual for his song "Die For You," which was produced by a creative studio called Actual Objects. The 3-minute video was reportedly a compilation of stock footage.
Joji, whose real name is George Kusunoki Miller, first teased the project a few months ago after releasing the single "Glimpse of You."
The video was directed by Dan Streit who explained that the musician had an idea for creating a video that would be "hand-held, shaky, where you're following a group of kids and there's lots of fast cutting and destruction."
The director then found a cheap camera that they could use so they ended up having great visuals for the video. However, he clarified that there was footage that didn't come out good, but "the ideas evolved as we went along."
88Rising later confirmed the project three months later and Joji dropped the second single "Yukon (Interlude)."
The album is divided into two parts. Hypebeast reported that Side A mostly revolves around the singer's ballads, while the other one features lo-fi sounds, which were produced by the musician himself.
