Hurricane G, a New York rapper from the 1990s, has died.
The trailblazing female rapper, Gloria Rodriguez, was claimed to have died on Sunday, according to EMPD's Erick Sermon, with whom she had her only child Lexus Cannon.
As of this writing, the cause of death of Hurricane G has not been revealed.
"My heart is hardened today," Erick posted on Instagram. "One of my close pals... my oldest daughter's mother died today."
He went on to call her a "legend in her own right in the hip-hop culture," saying she "paved the way."
Lexus also posted a picture of her and her mother on Monday and captioned her devastation, "wtf am I supposed to do without you?"
Lexus announced on Facebook in May that Hurricane G had stage four lung cancer.
"Don't know how many of you understand what that means but even after 30 years of life I'm still trying to process it myself. I have never cried so much in my life I have never felt so disconnected from reality in my life."
Tributes For Hurricane G
Domingo Padilla, who produced the rapper's album 1997 "All Woman," took to his social media page saying how he was "blessed" to know her and create her debut album.
Rah Digga also penned in her tribute, "I feel crazy posting back to back death like this but #HurricaneG is family as well as a legend and my good sis deserves her flowers."
Who Was Hurricane G?
Hurricane G was born in Brooklyn, New York City, but was of Puerto Rican origin. Throughout her 30-year career, she has rapped in both Spanish and English.
She began her career as a member of the Def Squad, but many fans fell in love with her during the opening of Redman's 1992 song, "Tonight's Da Night," in which she instructs the Jersey MC to "Get off that punk smooth s-t guy."
Two years later, she performed on Red's "Dare Iz A Darkside" and "Public Enemy 2000" on Diddy's 1999 album.
Hurricane G's long-awaited first album, "Somebody Else," was released in 1997 and contained the song "Somebody Else," which hit the top ten on the Hot Rap songs list.
Another Death
Hurricane G's death happened nearly immediately after the death of another hip-hop artist, Tame One of Artifacts.
He is a relative of Redman, who rose to stardom in the 1990s but failed to achieve commercial success.
