Artists take their creations very seriously, including how fans consume their media and The Weeknd is no different. The singer took to social media to tell fans exactly how "Trilogy" was meant to be listened to.

"If y'all wanna hear the trilogy how it's supposed to be listened to ... listen to 'House Of Balloons', 'Thursday' and 'Echoes Of Silence' individually'," the Canadian native wrote.

He also gave fans a disclaimer about "Trilogy": "Not all samples are on 'Trilogy' and the mix isn't the original mix. But shout out trilogy but FYI, for the new fans, it isn't an album."

According to reports, The Weeknd released his debut mixtape "House of Balloons" onto streaming services in 2021. It was noted that the mixtape was "in its original incarnation" and was released to celebrate its 10th anniversary; he then released the two following mixtapes.

With the three mixtapes, along with original mixes and samples, all available on streaming services, the singer wants to avoid confusion by taking down 'Trilogy" altogether.

"I might get rid of the compilation just so there's no more confusion, now that ALL the samples are finally cleared since December 17, 2021."

Anniversary

Although The Weeknd did not explicitly explain why he decided to pay special attention to his collection, fans suspected it might have something to do with its anniversary.

"Trilogy" just celebrated its 10th anniversary last Nov. 13, and has a loyal fanbase of its own, which is why the singer reconsidered his initial tweet.

"But I also know there are fans of the compilation so I might not get rid of it. But just want it to be clear for all the new fans and weirdly older fans," he tweeted.

Furthermore, reports noted that if The Weeknd does push through with removing "Trilogy," the song from the compilation can still be found in his other mixtapes like "House of Balloons," "Thursday," and "Echoes of Silence," which are all safe from being removed from streaming services.

Fans poked fun at the singer's decision-or indecision-to take the compilation down on its 10th anniversary, "'Trilogy' 10 years old and getting threats of being removed on its birthday," a fan tweeted.

Another fan suggested: "Can you make a new version of Trilogy that sounds closer to the OG while still remastering it? HOB title track, for example, sounds really good on Trilogy but it also sounds a bit too clean. If you can make one that sounds a lot like the original with a facelift I would love you."
