Nick Jonas, one of the biggest musicians in the world, shares something in common with more than 9% of the entire adult population in the entire world.
In a video that he posted on his Instagram account, Nick shared with his 33.3 million followers about the symptoms that he felt before being diagnosed with diabetes.
"I had 4 signs that I was living with Type 1 diabetes: excessive thirst, weight loss, frequent urination, and irritability," Nick admitted. "hese can be recognized as common signs of Type 1 diabetes. I'm sharing my signs so that others can #SeeTheSigns. Join me and share yours."
The post was in connection to World Diabetes Day, which was held last Monday, Nov. 14, 2022. The annual global campaign aims to shed light on the public diabetes mellitus and give focus to other campaigns that seek and prioritize diabetes care to a larger network of people in the world.
According to Diabetes Health, Nick was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at the early age of thirteen and started using an insulin pump at the time just to manage his condition.
With his massive influence and celebrity status, Jonas developed the Change for the Children Foundation - collaborating with other charities to raise money and awareness for diabetes. He has also been a diabetes ambassador to encourage the youth to manage their diabetes - even going to the lengths of testifying to the US Senate to promote research funding for the condition.
According to the World Health Organization, Diabetes is a chronic disease that occurs either when the pancreas does not produce enough Insulin or when the body cannot effectively use the Insulin it produces. The hormone that regulates blood glucose is called Insulin.
Speaking to People Magazine, Jonas opened up about how his brothers spotted that he was drinking an "insatiable" amount of soda, confused about how he had lost weight along the way too.
"I had this kind of wrench thrown into things when I was diagnosed and it took a while to figure out how to count carbs to properly dose for insulin and what things would affect me in different ways," the pop star told the outlet.
Now, the post already had almost 700,000 likes and a hundred comments from his fans thanking him for sharing his experience.
