Kelly Rowland 'Tired' Of Being Compared To Beyonce: 'That's When It Shows How Dim They Are'

In a recent interview, Kelly Rowland was yet again asked about what it is like "playing second" to Beyonce, and she has had enough of it.

The singer-turned-actress went on a radio show to promote her movie, "Fantasy Football," but host Peter Rosenberg had other topics to talk about in mind-specifically the dreaded and overused narrative of Rowland living in Beyonce's shadow.

Rowland handled it like a pro and cut off the host before he could go any further: "Here's the thing, light attracts light. I am light. So I am a beautiful brown shining light. So I don't think anybody's light dims anyone else's. I think that when other people start to compare you, I think that's when it shows how dim they are of themselves."

"So I don't take somebody else trying to dim my light anymore for anybody else. I love Be, I know that she's a light. But I know that I'm a light too."

However, it seems like Rosenberg did not take the hint that Rowland was shutting down comparison claims because he continued to talk about Rowland could have "rested on [her] laurels," her role in Destiny's Child, and being best friends with "the biggest star in the world."

Marsai Martin was seen applauding her in the video as Rowland elaborated on how she did appreciate how "people only see things one-sided," and how she was placed in a narrative of playing second fiddle to Beyonce.

According to reports, Rowland then proceeded to commend Beyonce for opening doors and opportunities for other women "that look like her."

"Beyonce knocked down doors and made positions for so many women that look like her, and that are a deeper shade than her, but specifically for Black women. And [she] put Black women in other places that we're grateful for," Rowland added.

Backlash

While Rowland handled the situation with class and grace, her fans were still livid with how Rosenberg insisted on comparing the two Destiny's Child singers.

"Kelly has always been a star since day one. She's been everyone's favorite since day one. Beyonce was just elevated more because her father was their manager. Mrs Rowland been that girl since 'With Me' with that cute pixie cut," a fan wrote.

"It's a shame that she still has to keep addressing this. It's just lazy interviewing at this point. Kelly is amazing and so are the other members of Destiny's Child. As a group and as separate acts," another added.

Another fan tweeted: "I knew what kind of response Kelly Rowland was about to give just based on her 'mhhm's..' while he was speaking. I know she gets tired of answering those questions for decades. I'm glad she's showing the power she also has! Good for her!"

According to reports, Rosenberg has since apologized on Twitter: "Lol I did get it...I hated my question ...clumsy and stupid ... dropped her a line to apologize for how it came off."
