Wilko Johnson, a Dr Feelgood musician and "Game of Thrones" actor, has died at the age of 75.
He was first diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and that it was terminal cancer in 2013 and was given only 10 months to live after refusing treatment.
However, he defied the odds and was certified cancer-free two years later after surgeons removed three kilos of the tumor during an 11-hour operation.
Wilko died on Monday at his home, according to a statement posted on his Twitter account on Wednesday.
"This is the announcement we never wanted to make, & we do so with a very heavy heart: Wilko Johnson has died."
The statement further reads, "He passed away at home on Monday 21st November. Thank you for respecting the family's privacy at this very sad time. RIP Wilko Johnson."
Simon, the musician's son, survives him. After his wife died of cancer in 2004, he was widower.
The punk star, born John Peter Wilkinson, cemented his position in the hearts of fans with his inimitable guitar playing style and, of course, his role in the punk movement.
He was an English teacher before becoming a rockstar, and he rose to prominence in the 1970s for his work with Dr Feelgood.
Wilko was recognized for his distinct, choppy guitar technique, which he developed after learning to play right-handed while being left-handed.
Aside from that band, Wilko also performed with Ian Dury and the Blackheads before creating his own band, the Wilko Johnson Band.
Wilko also dabbled in acting, making his TV debut as Ser Ilyn Payne in "Game of Thrones" in 2011. He first appeared as a guest star on the show, but his popularity with fans prompted the show to bring him back the following season.
