Joe Jonas has been one of the most sought-after musician actors in the entertainment industry since he, along with his brothers Nick and Kevin, catapulted as The Jonas Brothers on Disney Channel.
Now happily wed to "Game of Thrones" actress Sophie Turner, the eldest Jonas has branched out to more acting roles. Very recently, he stars as Marty Good in the American biographical war film along with Jonathan Majors and Glen Powell, among an ensemble cast.
Speaking to Variety's podcast "Just for Variety," Jonas opened up on his experience of auditioning for the role.
"When I got the audition. I read the book, read the script, met the director, and I was just like, 'How have I not heard of this story of these two incredible brave individuals and the Korean War?' he revealed.
Not only does Jonas gets to portray a historical figure, but he also joins forces with Khalid in crafting the post-credit song for the movie, titled "Not Alone."
Ever since the song and the movie came out, chatter around Jonas' eligibility for the Oscar Best Original Song nomination came about. Elsewhere in the interview, the former DNCE vocalist talked about the possible competition in the mix, slipping out a tidbit that shocked many.
"I'm just grateful to be even within that conversation. I think the 17, 18 years of experience I have at this point, I'm just grateful that I get to do what I love. I know that sounds like a very political answer here, but you'll drive yourself crazy if you obsess over it. That's why I have a great therapist. I try to just focus on the opportunity that I get to create music. This was something I never expected to happen," he told the podcast.
Marc Malkin, the host of the podcast, followed through with an important revelation that Jonas has spilled.
"I have to say the fact that you mentioned your therapist, it's not often that someone like you mentions they're in therapy. That's pretty admirable," Malkin shared.
Jonas, comfortable with the question, revealed that he had actually talked to his therapist an hour before the podcast interview: "It's so important. I move a million of miles an hour and you're just hopping city to city. Also at the end of the day, we're just people and we need to look after one another and check in with ourselves. There were years where I didn't look after myself and I was just going, going, going and I was feeling crazy and feeling really affected by every little thing. And then you speak to somebody and you're like, "Oh, this is why."
Although it was not further elaborated, Jonas explicitly confirmed that he is undergoing therapy sessions with a mental health professional - a move that many actors and singers in the entertainment industry have been doing in the past few years.
