Mariah Carey, the self-proclaimed Queen of Christmas, recently graced this year's highly-anticipated Macy's Thanksgiving Parade where she performed her smash holiday hit "All I Want For Christmas" but it appears that not everyone was happy with her show; what happened?
According to the New York Post, the "Touch My Body" hitmaker sported a pink tulle gown with a trumpet skirt, an umbrella, and a tiara.
Despite the track being an upbeat song as her backup dancers, who wore nutcracker-inspired outfits, performed their best choreography, Carey just stood in the middle of the stage while singing.
Her lack of energy prompted fans to call her out on Twitter, with one fan writing "Mariah Carey lip syncing in place with this umbrella at 78% energy while her dancers perform like their lives hang in the balance on the Thanksgiving Parade is pure CAMP!!"
"I love her lack of energy, go girl give us nothing!" one fan re-posted a comment from a YouTube video.
"mariah carey getting paid to just stand there at the thanksgiving parade and not even pretend to be actually singing to the backing track lmfao," another one wrote.
As of this writing, Mariah Carey has not publicly commented on the matter.
John Legend Reveals All Performers Were Lip Syncing During Thanks Giving Parade
In 2018, Rita Ora was criticized for lip-syncing during the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade, at the time John Legend went on to defend the singer for her actions, saying every performer had backtracks throughout the show.
Many fans immediately quote-retweeted Legend's comments to defend Mariah Carey. The reason behind this is that floats during the parade "don't have the capacity to handle the sound requirements for a live performance."
The "All of Me" hitmaker then told fans at the time that he hope they enjoyed his performance and asked them to come to his shows because his vocals are "100%."
Mariah Carey Fails to Get 'Queen of Christmas' Trademark
The recent performance comes after the US Trademark Trial and Appeal Board ruled that the "Oh Santa!" songstress couldn't use the title "Queen of Christmas."
Aside from the title mentioned above, Carey also attempted to acquire the rights to use "Christmas Princes" and "Princess Christmas" but was rejected.
Elizabeth Chan, a singer who claims that she is the only full-time pop Christmas recording artist in the world, is the one who could only use the title as she already released 12 Christmas albums since the beginning of her career.
