Leave it to Tori Amos to out-creep Radiohead.
Amos' version of the UK band's 1993 hit "Creep" is not a better version per se, but it's simply freakier. Between the pronunciation of "weirdo" ("weeeer-toe") and an amalgamation of cat noises during the tune's classic bridge, it's hard to fight off the heebie-jeebies.
The 50-year-old singer performed the cover at NYC's Beacon Theatre on Wednesday night, and the audience was heavily invested. The crowd let out loud whoops nearly every time Amos dropped one of the song's F-bombs (she added more, for art's sake).
Check out the crowd-shot, multi-cam video here (thanks to Consequence of Sound for the find):
Amos released her 14th studio album, Unrepentant Geraldines, this May. The new material has made up a good chunk of the setlists on her current North American tour, but she still finds time to dust off old cuts like "Creep."
According to Setlist.FM, Amos has also covered the likes of Depeche Mode, Joni Mitchell, Judy Garland, Elton John, Led Zeppelin, U2, Fleetwood Mac, Nirvana, Rihanna, Billy Joel and several others on the current tour.
Consequence of Sound points out that she's covered Radiohead before, and that her version of "Creep" is giving the song some much-needed life; Radiohead haven't played it in a half-decade.
