Taylor Swift and Kendrick Lamar have some friendly rivalry going on. Not only are they qualified for an Oscar nomination, but they are also up against each other at the Grammys.
A lot is at stake for the upcoming Grammy Awards for both Swift and Lamar, because whoever wins would be making history.
According to Billboard, both artists are nominated for two categories, the first being song of the year and the second for best music video.
Swift's "All Too Well: The Short Film" is up against Lamar's "The Heart Part 5."
And to think the pair were collaborators for Swift's single "Bad Blood," released in 2014.
Making History
Swift had major success with the rerelease of her fourth studio album "Red (Taylor's Version)," and it also added a new role under her long list of accomplishments-director.
Back then, she used to co-direct her music videos, but "All Too Well (10 Minute Version) (Taylor's Version) (From The Vault)" received special treatment as the singer-songwriter single-handedly directed it and made it into a short film.
Should the "Anti-Hero" singer win the best music video award, she would reportedly become the first artist to solely direct their own music video.
Meanwhile, should Lamar win the award, he would become the first artist to win the award three times, and be the first-ever artist who co-directed their video to win.
Other contenders for the best music video award are Adele's "Easy on Me," BTS' "Yet to Come," "Woman" by Doja Cat, and "As It Was" by Harry Styles. However, none of these artists directed their own videos, thus all eyes are on Lamar and Swift.
Swift has expressed her excitement with the Grammy nod, and noted how the song is the "song [she's] the most proud of, out of anything [she's] written."
"The fact that it's nominated for Song of the Year at the Grammys, an award I've never won, that honors the songwriting... it's momentous and surreal," she added.
Not only is everyone anticipating Lamar and Swift at the Grammys, but everyone is also anticipating the Academy Awards to release their nominees for the best live-action short category because both artists are qualified for consideration, reports say.
Swift's "All Too Well: The Short Film" and Lamar's "We Cry Together." Fans are sitting on the edge of their seats, waiting for the 2023 Oscar nominations.
