Millie Bobby Brown admitted that despite watching Disney stars Selena Gomez and Miley Cyrus and their shows, she couldn't identify to them.
Selena rose to fame as Alex Russo on the Disney Channel's "Wizards of Waverly Place" from 2007 until 2012. She portrayed a caustic and feisty wizard.
Meanwhile, from 2006 to 2011, Miley Cyrus portrayed "Hannah Montana," a youngster who had a double life as a successful pop singer of the same name. It was an alter identity she established in order to protect her anonymity and live a regular adolescent life.
In a recent interview, Millie Bobby Brown claimed that, despite having grown up watching both series, she saw a lot of herself in her character, "Enola Holmes," and that she regarded her as a role model she never had as a youngster.
In the Netflix film, "Enola Holmes" is Sherlock Holmes's younger sister.
The "Stranger Things" actress enthused over her young detective character, noting that Enola has a lot of fantastic attributes that are both great and not great.
"We use comedy to deflect and project."
"And I think that it's quite nice implementing so many parts of who I am into her. Because growing up, I had these American lead actresses that I'd always look up to."
Though she would fall in love with Selena and Miley's characters on Disney, the British actress said, "I never had anyone that sounded like me, that was where I was from, that was a girl."
Millie Bobby Brown said it's fantastic to have that inspiration to look up to and for a lot of young girls to be motivated by recognizing defects in her character since she wanted Enola so badly as a child.
She said of Enola, "She's layered, she's not perfect. And I think that's something that we love to see. But for me, I love implementing most of my flaws into Enola because it's truthful."
Millie added, "And I love seeing that. We are very similar and I like showing the worse side to who she is as well."
The 18-year-old actress also talked about how she broke down business barriers and how she and her character don't fit into anything that's "not suitable for us, and we persevere through that if that be incorrect or good."
