Neil Young is now open to retiring after previously saying he did not expect it to happen unless he died.

While serving the music industry for decades since 1963, Young never thought of stepping down or slowing down a bit that he once said he would only retire once he is dead.

But things seemingly changed recently.

In a new interview with New Yorker, Young revealed that retirement "doesn't seem out of the realm of possibility" for him now.

"That could happen. You get to a point in life where things are happening everywhere around you, and your friends are going away and not coming back. Things change," he said, as quoted by Ultimate Classic Rock and Culture.

Before he retires, Young opened the idea of creating a sustainable tour for himself and his attendees. The potential tour would be his first public concert since 2019.

According to the 77-year-old crooner, he wants to avoid performing in venues that give factory-farmed food to attendees. With that, Young's greatest goal for fans would ensure everything is clean for everyone.

Young explained that factory farm "is killing people," so he wants to make sure his fans consume foods from real farmers.

Although the tour is yet to be confirmed, Young currently focuses on his music following the release of his two new albums, "Barn" and "World Record," this year.

What Neil Young Used To Say About Retirement

His new statement came years after he pledged to fans that he would only retire when he is dead.

Speaking with Rolling Stone, the rock veteran said people would know he retired because he would be dead at that time. Instead of retiring and saying he would not come back, he reportedly wanted to continue working with his two great bands, Promise of the Real and Crazy Horse.

However, he said at that time - as well - that he was not yet ready to tour alone.

As for farewell tours, Young said he does not believe in those, explaining why musicians can say goodbye once.

Neil Young has released several hit albums since he debuted, including "Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere," "Harvest," "Time Fades Away," "Zuma," "Long May You Run," "Hawks and Doves," "Trans" "Old Ways," "Landing On Water," "Life," "Broken Arrow," "Living With war," "Americana," "A Letter Home," "Homegrown," and "Colorado."
