What was supposed to be a natural and normal part of life, like growing into adolescence, became a problem for Shania Twain, the country singer revealed in a recent interview.

The 57-year-old opened up about the abuse she endured as a child in her interview with the Sunday Times, like instances wherein she had to hide her body.

"I hid myself and I would flatten my boobs. I would wear bras that were too small for me, and I'd wear two, play it down until there was nothing girl about me," she said.

"Make it easier to go unnoticed. Because, oh my gosh, it was terrible - you didn't want to be a girl in my house."

According to Daily Mail UK, Twain had once admitted that she had been sexually abused as a child: "I'm not going to go into details about it. I don't mind saying it, because I do think it's important that people understand you can survive these things.

She says, "I feel the sexual abuse goes hand in hand with the physical and psychological abuse when it's somebody you know. I learned to block it out."

Reports noted that Twain's parents died in a car accident in 1987, when she was 22, but she still felt imprisoned by her past experiences and continued to feel "exploited" despite being physically free from abuse.

'Abusers need to manipulate you, whether it's before or after, and what I said to myself is: 'OK, there's something wrong with this person and that person is not well,'" she continued.

The Independent reports that the singer started getting abused by the age of 10, and while it has been decades since then, she still bares the scars from it.

Twain, born Eilleen Regina Edwards, hails from Windsor, Ontario, Canada.

She was named "Queen of Country Pop," has sold over 100 million records, and became the best-selling female artist in country music, which only proves why she was given that moniker.

Her upcoming album "Queen of Me" is slated to be released in 2023, with her last album, "Not Just a Girl (The Highlights)" released earlier this year.

If there is anything the country star has proved, it is that she is a fighter. Aside from surviving abuse, she also survived her bout with Lyme disease.
