The producers of "Stranger Things" gave fans one episode too many of the eerie series last year. The streamer skillfully inserted a clip of Kate Bush's 1980s single "Running Up That Hill" within its hours (and hours and hours) of insanity.
In turn, Bush took over everyone's playlist-just days after the song was included in "Stranger Things," topped the Hot 100 music chart, captivated hearts, and inspired many a meme.
Now, it appears like Netflix is attempting to replicate history with their new show Wednesday, which recently featured a another 1980s tune, "Goo Goo Muck" by The Cramps. Interestingly, there had been memes already comparing "Wednesday" and "Stranger Things," although honestly speaking, the two could not be any more different.
"Wednesday," starring Jenna Ortega, is a spinoff of The Addams Family produced by Netflix. Wednesday Addams' life at Nevermore Academy, a high school for strange pupils with magical skills, is the subject of the popular television series.
To the pleasure of many fans, the fourth show had an unexpected dance sequence, which saw Wednesday execute a wonderful, albeit bizarre, routine to "Go Goo Muck." The devil may work hard, but Netflix works harder, it appears.
It took the Internet only a few days to recognize Ortega's brilliance. When it did? The act has gone viral. Billboard reports that a song by The Cramps is rapidly climbing the charts. Perhaps it's the scene's gloomy lighting, its outfits, or Ortega's deadpan expression as she struts across the dance floor.
According to Ortega, she independently devised the now-famous act. Ortega and her co-stars Emma Meyers (Enid), Hunter Doohan (Tyler), Percy Hines (Xavier Thorpe), and Joy Sunday (Bianca Barclay) discussed the moment in an interview with Watching Netflix. She said she genuinely felt pretty insecure about this.
She choreographed that herself and she thought it's extremely evident that I'm not a dancer or choreographer. Despite Ortega's diffidence, Doohan jumped in to call the sequence "amazing," while Meyers stated the performance is "fantastic." Evidently, the Internet concurs. The dance has developed into its own cultural phenomenon. Now, fans of the show are uploading their own renditions of Wednesday's eccentric dance movements to TikTok.
