Bad Bunny is taking a few steps away from the music industry despite scoring the biggest achievement on Spotify this year.
The year 2022 has been a fruitful one for Bad Bunny as he offered two major back-to-back tours while releasing record-breaking albums and earning several accolades. Among the recognitions he achieved, he ultimately became Spotify's most-streamed global artist, with over 18.5 billion streams this year alone.
But amid the success he savors, the Puerto Rican rapper - whose real name is Benito Antonio Martinez Ocasio - plans to prioritize the most important thing in his life next year.
Speaking with Billboard, Bad Bunny said he would be taking a hiatus in 2023 to focus on his health and celebrate his achievements.
"2023 is for me, for my physical health, my emotional health to breathe. We're going to celebrate. Let's go here, let's go there, let's go on the boat. I have a couple of sporadic commitments, and I'll go to the studio, but there's no pressure. Remember yourself, cabrón. You've worked your ass off," he said.
Bud Bunny also opened up about being spontaneous, including his collaboration with Drake. Still, he revealed he never expected to become the popular artist he is now.
Instead of competing, the hip-hop artist reportedly wanted t make a living from writing and singing his songs.
Indeed, Bad Bunny made it come true this year. He marked his first major tour after the surge of the COVID-19 pandemic, launching El Ultimo Tour del Mundo. The tour started in February and ended in April in Miami.
He then started his second tour following the release of his album, "Un Verano Sin Ti."
Bad Bunny's Spotify Achievement
His decision to take a break came weeks after Spotify Wrapped confirmed that he is the world's most-streamed artist on the platform in 2022. This year marked the third year he brought home the recognition.
This year, he had 18.5 billion streams - more than double what he recorded last year.
He also made his album "Un Verano Sin Ti" the most streamed album in the world; two of his songs also joined the top five most-streamed songs.
Bad Bunny went through a long road to be where he is right now. In 2018, he snagged his first No. 1 with his collaborative track with Cardi B, "I Like It." His album "X 100Pre" also made it to Billboard's Top Latin Albums chart and ranked No. 1.
