The DJ for Ellen DeGeneres' program, Stephen "tWitch" Boss, committed suicide, according to a preliminary autopsy report. He was 40.

This started anew conversations on mental health, and how someone who looked very okay just the week ago - happy even - can decide to take his own life. Some have started to speculate whether losing his regular gig with "The Ellen DeGeneres" show as the show was cancelled affected him mentally.

'The Ellen DeGeneres Show' Cancellation Affected tWitch Boss

But everything are pure speculations as of this moment.

The show's host Ellen Degeneres has already provided a statement expressing her deepest sadness over the news. DeGeneres tweeted that she was "heartbroken" and described Boss as her "family" and "pure love and light."

Whether or not the cancellation affected him, people would never really know. But his exclusive interview, where he expressed his thoughts about the show's cancellation would show he was not that sad about it. IN fact, he was inspired about Ellen's decision.

According to E!, tWitch, listening to his longtime colleague expounded her reasons for moving on was pretty inspiring.

"I was really proud of her, actually," he shared. "Because I know that she's been at it for 18-plus years now. And it's not easy." In that time, he continued, "We've employed thousands and thousands and thousands of people, changed a lot of lives, but that's something to do that same thing every single day. And I'm proud of her that she's kind of put an earmark on the closing of a saga to begin her next chapter. Because that's huge and monumental in itself."

Twitch Boss Last Days

Earlier on, it was the grieving wife that broke the news. Allison Holker, 34, told People magazine that it is with the heaviest of hearts that she had to reveal that her husband Stephen has left them. Stephen illuminated every room he entered. He placed family, friends, and community above all else, and he placed the utmost importance on leading with love and light. He was the pillar of their family, the best husband and father, and a role model for his admirers. She felt blindsided by it all given how cheerful her husband was the days leading to his death. He was even relishing the holiday feels as Christmas approaches!

TMZ was told by law enforcement sources that Holker went to a Los Angeles Police Department station on Tuesday and was "frantic" because her husband had left the house without his car, which was atypical. Shortly thereafter, police were notified of a gunshot at a hotel in the Los Angeles region.

According to the autopsy report, Boss was discovered dead with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. A receptionist at the Oak Tree Inn in Monrovia, California, verified to The Daily Beast that Boss had checked in on Monday morning but denied additional comment.

Boss posted regularly in his final days, including a video of him and Holker dancing to Alicia Keys' December Back 2 June on Instagram on Sunday, as well as a birthday post for his grandfather and wedding images to commemorate his anniversary over the weekend.

Boss published images of Holker, his wife, and their three children on a regular basis, saying last week that his favorite aspect of the holiday season is the feeling of togetherness. In 2014, Boss debuted as a DJ on Ellen Degeneres's talk program.

Six years later, he became an executive producer. He remained on the show until earlier this year, when it was canceled. Previously, Boss had competed in the 2008 season of "So You Think You Can Dance" and placed second. One of his dances with fellow contestant Katee Shean was nominated for an Emmy for choreography, and he was invited back as one of the show's "all-stars" in succeeding seasons. Boss joins the show's judging panel for the seventeenth season in 2022.

Boss also had a succession of acting roles that showcased his dancing abilities, including the "Step Up" flicks and "Magic Mike XXL" (2015).

Between 2018 and 2020, he also hosted the Disney+ show Disney's "Fairy Tale Weddings" with Holker, who also competed on SYTYCD.

The documentary series depicted couples holding Disney-themed nuptials at various Disney resorts. Boss and Holker were married in 2013 and have two children. Boss also adopted Weslie Renae Boss, Holker's daughter.
