In an exclusive interview with The Mail on Sunday, his first in more than a decade, Britney Spears' estranged father has spoken up about what he thinks about his daughter now and whether he regret his supposed actions - from putting his daughter under a conservatorship, to allegedly controlling her while under the arrangement, and supposedly abusing his daughter's hard-earned money.
The 70-year-old has chosen to speak more candidly to defend himself and the court order, claiming that it is the only reason his daughter is still alive.
According to him, it was a necessary intervention that not only rescued Britney from her darkest days, but also rescued her fragile relationship with her children, Preston, 17, and Jayden, 16 years old, whom she shares with her ex-husband, former backup dancer Kevin Federline.
For him, Britney Spears would have died if not for the arrangement and his intervention.
Jamie acknowledges that these were difficult times and cautions that he "won't paint any pretty pictures" of the family's struggles. However, he insists that the decisions were correct, despite the fact that they harmed his relationship with his daughter. The conservatorship was an excellent tool for protecting her and the children, he insisted. Without it, he doubted she would have gotten her children back.
Many fans who were initially thrilled that Spears got her freedom back are now worried about her actions in social media.
krista.portland wrote in one post, "Everyone screamed "Free Britney" but no one knew the factual and potentially medical reasons that her life was set up the way it was. THIS is what happens when you "free" someone who needs mental health care. I just hope she doesn't hurt herself or another. "
Britney Spears recently posed provocatively in a pair of red bikini bottoms and told her 41.6 million Instagram followers that expressing her freedom has never felt better. Many remain supportive of the star's self-expression, but many are starting to think something is not right with the legend, especially mentally. She can be seen half-naked here, with her hands cupping her breasts under the shower head and then dancing provocatively.

A little more than a year has passed since the singer was finally released from a controversial 13-year 'conservatorship' in which her father, Jamie, was given control over her personal and financial life. The unprecedented situation, which involved one of the most famous faces in the world, ultimately led to millions of Jamie's fans criticizing her.
Since the #FreeBritney campaign gained traction and a series of closed-door court hearings were held to dissolve the conservatorship, the past three years have taken a tremendous toll. Jamie, who has endured significant health issues, now resides in rural Louisiana with his other daughter, Britney's younger sister Jamie Lynn.
Britney stated in a recent YouTube rant that her father "controlled everything I did" at that time, but that she "had to go along with it because I knew they could hurt me." Britney's 1998 hit Baby One More Time propelled her to global fame at age 17, but her parents divorced four years later.
Spears' life in the limelight however has gotten overwhelmingly crazy through the years. As a result, she experienced a very public breakdown. She shaved her head, struck a photographer's car with an umbrella, and was hospitalized for substance abuse.
The online #FreeBritney movement, which received celebrity support from Madonna, Paris Hilton, and Miley Cyrus, accused Jamie of holding his daughter against her will in a mental health facility, bugging her phones, and controlling every aspect of her life. Jamie had, for the most part, remained silent, speaking only to describe the campaign as a "joke" run by "conspiracy theorists."
