Billy Joel has postponed his final concert of the year at Madison Square Garden, citing "vocal rest due to a viral infection." Does this mean the rocker is told he no longer could sing?

Up until 2023, at least.

On Monday night (19.12.22), the 73-year-old rock legend was scheduled to perform at the 86th show of his residency at the renowned New York venue; however, he has been forced to postpone the performance until June 2.

The 'Piano Man' said in a social media post that he's disappointed to share that he is under doctor's orders for vocal rest due to a viral infection, so "I must postpone my concert at Madison Square Garden on December 19th until June."

He also apologized for informing his fans so close to the performance date, but he himself had hoped to be closer to a full recovery by now. Sadly, this has not occurred. He said he is eagerly anticipating seeing his fans in the New Year.

Billy holds the record for most performances at MSG, having performed 131 times.

His return to the stage is scheduled for January 13.

Billy will also headline American Express presents BST Hyde Park in 2019.

The performance on July 7 will be his only appearance in Europe in 2023.

In the meantime, a Billy Joel biopic is in production.

Michael Jai White's Jaigantic Studios is developing the film 'Piano Man,' with Adam Ripp tapped to write and direct.

The film will chronicle Billy's early years, beginning with his 16-year-old discovery by his first manager Irwin Mazur, his 1960s performances with a Long Island cover band, and his 1972 breakthrough performance, which caught the attention of legendary record producer Clive Davis.

However, according to Billy's representative, the singer will not be involved with the film and will not grant film executives any rights to his music, name, likeness, or life story.

Jaigantic Studios have instead acquired the life rights to Irwin, who managed Billy from 1965 to 1972 - the year before the release of "Piano Man," his breakthrough song and album.

According to the film's producers, the film's musical requirements are "yet to be determined."

Jaigantic Studios, along with producers White, Mayne Berke, and Donovan de Boer, as well as Irwin and Ripp, will serve as executive producers for "Piano Man."

In 1971, Ripp's father Artie signed Billy to his first solo record deal and produced his debut album, "Cold Spring Harbor."
