Demi Lovato has been stepping up in a major way.
Last month, the "Neon Lights" singer was named the new face of HRC's Americans for Marriage Equality and she announced Friday (Aug. 15) she will join the Mental Health Listening & Engagement Tour.
In the past, Lovato has used her celebrity to advocate for mental health issues, specifically bipolar disorder, with which she was diagnosed in 2011, according to Billboard.
"Bipolar depression really got my life off track, but today I'm proud to say I am living proof that someone can live, love, and be well with bipolar disorder when they get the education, support and treatment they need," the pop singer said in a public service announcement video.
A message from Sunovion Pharmaceuticals at the beginning of the video reads, "To support the mental health community's vision of building a new generation of powerful advocates, The Mental Health Listening & Engagement Tour connects Demi Lovato with the mental health advocacy community in a new way."
"I want to shine a light on the people out there who like me are learning to live well with mental illness by getting the right diagnosis and finding the right treatment plan," Lovato said. "I want to be the most informed and powerful advocate I can be and to help people to find the courage to seek help."

As stated in the video, the Mental Health Listening & Engagement Tour was started by the JED Foundation whose mission is to promote emotional health and prevent suicide among college and university students.
The foundation has created this tour and many other programs through collaborations with the public and leaders in higher education, mental health, and research to produce and advance initiatives that promote awareness and understanding as well as increase knowledge.
Visit the JED Foundation's website here for more information on how to get involved.
