Terry Hall's The Specials bandmate revealed the singer's exact cause of death.
The music industry was bombarded with another death news after Hall's band, The Specials, confirmed on Monday that its lead vocalist died at the age of 63. It added that Hall died "after a brief illness" but did not specify what exactly the illness he suffered from.
Days after the confirmation, his bandmate revealed that Terry Hall's cause of death was cancer.
In a lengthy Facebook post by Horace Panter, The Specials already planned its next projects and gigs, including a reggae album in 2020. He noted that they already prepared everything and were scheduled to meet up with Nikolaj to complete the project this year.
However, they received an e-mail from Hall about him not being able to join the pre-production sessions because of a stomach issue. A week later, the singer was still not feeling well, leading to his hospitalization.
A few days later, their manager called them to deliver the saddening news.
"Terry's illness is a lot worse than we thought," he said. "He has been diagnosed with cancer. This is serious. Like life-threatening serious. He has also developed diabetes. This has to be treated first, then it's a regime of chemotherapy. There is nothing anyone can do. Everything is put on hold."
While hoping for the best for Hall, the singer's health continuously deteriorated to the point that he already lost weight. At that time, his pancreatic cancer already spread to his liver.
Unfortunately, he did not make it as he passed away on Dec. 18. With that, Panter declared that the world lost a unique voice while he also lost a good friend.
Terry Hall's Illness
The National Cancer Institute explains that pancreatic cancer is a type of dreaded illness in which cancer cells form and develop in the organ's tissues. Compared to the other cancer types, it is one of those that is difficult to diagnose early.
The notorious health issue also claimed the lives of Alan Rickman, Joan Crawford, Bill Hicks, Patrick Swayze, Aretha Franklin, Jonathan Gold, and Charlotte Rae, to name a few.

Hall started his career with The Specials when he replaced its original singer, Tim Strickland. He previously served as the frontman of The Coventry Automatics, which was eventually renamed as The Specials in 1979.
He left the band after releasing "Ghost Town," but he returned for its reunion in 2008 and stayed with the bandmates until his death.
