Sam Fender disapproves of comparisons to Bruce Springsteen. While a massive fan, he does not feel flattered to be deemed similar to the legend.
Despite being a tremendous fan of The Boss, 73, the "'Getting Started" rocker has revealed that he is "not too fond on that label" to the Sun newspaper's Bizarre column.
"I'm not too keen on that tag. I feel I would rather be me. It's like, 'hang on, I don't just rip him off, I have ripped off loads of other people'," Sam, 28 said.
"You take bits from everything as a musician. I have a saxophone and I am from a working-class town and I speak about working-class life, so it is easy to get stuck in," he said.
He however does not deny that the comparison is quite logical and he could see why it is being made.
Sam disclosed in May that he had collaborated with musical icons Springsteen, Sting, and Mark Knopfler on a charitable endeavor.
One fun fact about these calls though is that they tend to happen when he's taking a bath. He said, "Sting occasionally FaceTimes us, weirdly I always end up being in the bath."
The artist said earlier this year that he intended to conquer America.
He stated his objectives for the year are to write and record another album, and tour that album. He wants to also go to America and start doing things there, as they have barely scratched the surface of the United States.
Sam Fender, born in North Shields, has skyrocketed to fame since his 2018 debut. The "Seventeen Going Under" singer has accomplished so much in such a short period of time despite entering the music business only a few years ago.
Now a multi-award winner (including two BRIT awards and two NME awards), he has gone on successful world tours and is being listed as the headlining act at numerous festivals.
Now, Fender rubs shoulders with music business giants; he even attended an invitation-only dinner party at the home of Elton John. Other notable guests included Dua Lipa, Kit Connor, Sebastian Croft, and William Gao from Netflix's Heartstopper, Jake Shears of Scissor Sisters, and American music producer Andrew Watt.
