Bob Marley may have been dead for decades but his legacy in music and activism will forever live on thanks to his descendants who decided to follow his footsteps through the years; check out the Reggae icon's grandchildren who pursued music.
The musician's name was recently brought up again after Jo Mersa Marley, a starting reggae performer, passed away on December 27.
According to CNN Entertainment, the singer was found dead inside his car in Miami, Florida, earlier this week. His case is currently being investigated by authorities, but they clarified that they don't suspect foul play.
Grunge reported that Jo's last name was a big deal and it's because he was the grandchild of Bob Marley, his father Stephen Marley also became an inspiration to him as he also delved into the world of reggae.
Bob Marley died ten years before Jo was born, meaning the singer never got the chance to perform in front of his grandfather. However, he and his other relatives continued the reggae star's legacy by performing his songs.
Rolling Stone reported that Jo previously joined his musician father, uncle Ziggy Marley, aunts Sharon and Cedella, and even his cousin, Daniel Bambaata Marley.
The outlet noted that over six of Bob's grandchildren are making waves in the reggae scene. Some of the descendants include Matthew Prendergast, also known as Biggz General, KJ Marley, Skip Marley, Mystic Marley, and more.
Bob Marley's Grandchildren Who Didn't Pursue Music
Not all of his descendants pursued music as some of his grandchildren delved into the world of modeling, activism, and more.
One of his most notable grandchildren is Selah Marley, the daughter of Rohan and Lauryn Hill, who works as a model.
She became viral in recent years after criticizing her parents for their bad behavior when she was growing up, leading her father to post an apology online.
On the other hand, her half-brother Nico Marley is a successful football player who began his career at Tulane University. He later became a member of Washington's football team as an undrafted free-agent linebacker.
Donisha Prendergast, daughter of Sharon, works as an activist, actress, motivational speaker, and documentary maker.
Her campaign against police reform started in 2019 when she and three of her workmates were detained by authorities in California, who claimed to have received a call, saying they were breaking into a house despite the property being an Airbnb rental home.
