Phil Collins is definitely one of the best drummers in music history - but he is not the richest one.
Collins had been through ups and downs before officially announcing his retirement during the Genesis' O2 Arena show in March. At that time, he already sparked worries about his health due to his frailer look while remaining seated throughout the setlist of his performance with Mike Rutherford and Rony Banks.
He started his career in 1963 as an actor before performing with other bands. With his decades-old of career, the drummer ultimately earned a whopping amount in the industry.
According to Celebrity Net Worth, Phil Collins' net worth is at $300 million as of 2022. The status is even strengthened by the fact that he is one of the only three artists in history - alongside Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney - to sell more than 100 million albums both as a solo artist and as a group.
Despite that, Collins is actually not the richest drummer.
Securing the top spot on the list is The Beatles' Ringo Starr, who has an estimated $350 million net worth.
The Beatles drummer also had a long solo career that contributed so much to his earnings. Following him on the list are Larry Mullen Jr., Lars Ulrich, and Dave Grohl. Collins, for his part, is in fifth place.
The Genesis drummer famously held record-breaking concerts, earning millions from the tours he launched worldwide. He could earn as much as $50 million per concert.
Where Is Phil Collins Now?
After announcing his retirement, no news update have ever been posted about the drummer's health status.
For what it's worth, the musician had to bid goodbye after revealing during an interview on "BBC Breakfast" in September 2021 that he had been physically challenged to the point that he could barely hold a stick with his hands.
"Somehow, during the last Genesis tour, I dislocated some vertebrae in my upper neck, which affected my hands," Collins said. "After a successful operation on my neck, my hands still can't function normally. Maybe in a year or so it will change, but for now, it is impossible for me to play drums or piano."
He suffered a spinal injury following repeated damage to his vertebrae. His bones crushed against one another in his spinal cord due to the position he followed while playing his instrument.
