Paul McCartney is sad about Barbara Walters' death on Friday. She was 93 years old. The two legends are actually related to each other. Walters is the second cousin of Nancy, who is married to McCartney.
"Nancy and I are so saddened by the news of her dear cousin Barbara Walters' passing. The two of them enjoyed a deep loving relationship over many years, and I was proud to share some of those special moments," McCartney wrote Saturday on Facebook.
"Barbara was an amazing woman who more than held her own in the early days of male-dominated television and went on to become a worldwide celebrity known for her many perceptive interviews with stars from every walk of life. We will miss her but always remember her with great fondness."
Walters said that trucking heiress Nancy Shevell is her second cousin on an episode of "The View" back in 2007. At the time, Nancy, who was 63, and Paul, who was 80, were dating, and Walters set them up. In 2011, the couple got married in a big ceremony in London.
Walters said at the time that she cried during the "beautiful and wonderful" hour-long wedding. McCartney is one of many famous people who are paying tribute to the famous newswoman. Included in those who did were Oprah Winfrey and Star Jones.
There were a lot of famous people who died in 2022.
Just a few days ago, McCartney paid tribute to Vivienne Westwood, whose death yesterday at age 81 has shocked both the fashion and music worlds.
Westwood made the punk style famous, and her important work with Sex Pistols manager, Malcolm McLaren, broke the status quo by pushing fashion and the people who wore it to break our ideas of what is beautiful.
McCartney and Lennon are the most successful duo in the history of music. The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer has done so much that he should have his own wing at the Cleveland museum.
McCartney has written or co-written 32 songs that have been at the top of the Billboard Hot 100. He has also won 18 Grammy Awards and done more as a band member and solo artist than anyone else in the history of pop music. This is probably why McCartney had a hard time paying tribute to Lennon when he died, like he does now with Walters and Westwood.
Paul McCartney has explained why, after John Lennon's tragic death in 1980, he "couldn't talk" about him. McCartney, who is 80 years old, said that when he got home from the studio after Lennon was killed and turned on the TV, he saw people talking about how his friend's death had affected them, but it was "too hard" for him to do the same.
