Bad Bunny has responded to a video showing him submerging a fan's phone.
Bad Bunny Not Sorry
A social media video shows a fan approaching the Un Verano Sin Ti musician, and attempting to take a selfie with him before he grabs the device and throws it into the air and into the water (or into the bushes as some reports said).
After the video went viral on Monday, Bad Bunny, whose real name is Benito Antonio Martinez Ocasio, defended his actions on Twitter. "The person who comes up to me to say hello, to tell me something, or just to meet me, will always receive my attention and respect," the message, translated from Spanish, reads. "Those who come to put a f**king phone in my face I will consider it for what it is, a lack of respect, and I will treat it likewise." The Puerto Rican rapper made no further comments.
Earlier this year, Bad Bunny announced he would be "taking a break" from the music industry. He said 2023 is for him, or for his physical and emotional health.
He wants to breathe and for him to enjoy his accomplishments. He plans to travel and even go to the studio, but without pressure to record anything. The video gained more than a million views after going viral.
Phone Owner Reaction- Will She Sue?
The video showed how the rapper and his entourage kept talking and walking as if nothing happened after the incident, but it was clear that the fan vanished.
She could have raced off to get her phone so it's not clear how she reacted to the whole incident. While we now have the rapper's statement, it would actually be nice to hear from the girl. She must have been distraught, because while we do get the rapper's point, he's not the one to have lost a phone - probably something the girl worked hard to earn and buy in the first place!
Will she sue?
This is why some of the Spanish singer's fans felt the rapper overreacted to the phone-throwing incident. They said they understand he needs his personal space, but he can't be out here trying to live a normal life as a major celebrity and moreover, destroying people's property without repurcussions just because he felt disrespected. He could have walked away or reprimanded the fan. "Bottom line: he can't just damage people's property.
He could've just walked away from her or called security. Lowkey, he's beginning to lose touch with reality," a person wrote. Bad Bunny has chosen the Dominican Republic to celebrate the New Year with his family for years. According to Santiago Matas, also known as Alofoke, a prominent Dominican radio host, podcaster, and producer, the reggaeton star, who just completed a world tour, "is exhausted and wants to spend the holidays as Benito and not as Bad Bunny."
In addition to claiming the top album of the year with Un Verano Sin Ti, Billboard crowned Bad Bunny the top artist of 2022. He recently appeared in the Brad Pitt-led film Bullet Train as the assassin Wolf. In an upcoming Sony film, the international hip-hop superstar will portray the Marvel Comics character, El Muerto.
