Despite rumors that she was moving to Miami when her romance with Gerard Pique ended, Shakira will remain in Spain for a further five months.
Due to the failing health of her 91-year-old father, William Mebarak, the 45-year-old Queen of Latin Music has postponed the major relocation with her two children.
The "Waka Waka" hitmaker can't travel to Miami, according to Laura Fa, one of the two journalists who frequently cover the mother-of-two for El Periodico, since her father's condition is "extremely problematic."
After being sent to a hospital in Barcelona last year due to a fall, Shakira's father spent Christmas in the Catalan city with his daughter after being discharged from a private hospital in November and placed under round-the-clock professional at-home care.
His relocation to Miami is reportedly against medical advice.
He wouldn't be able to handle the flight unless it's in a medically equipped aircraft, according to The Sun.
Barring a last-minute change of heart, the "Hips Don't Lie" singer is also contemplating two departure dates. The first date is in the middle of March, which would fall around the US spring break, and the second is in June, at the conclusion of Milan and Sasha's Catalan academic year.
Shakira, whose full name is Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll, is reportedly preparing to begin work on a new video. To assist her in getting ready, her go-to stylist and choreographer are in the city.
After a long discussion that culminated in a 12-hour court hearing in November, Shakira and her ex-football player revealed they had struck a child custody arrangement.
The Miami-based singer from Colombia wants to go there because it's where she used to reside and where some of her family is allegedly based.
"We desire to convey that we have signed an agreement that assures the wellbeing of our children and that will be validated in court as part of a purely procedural procedure," the famous couple, who split up in May, said in a joint statement.
There was also talk at the time that their children would spend Christmas with Gerard, who was seeing Clara Chia, 23, but that he would have to leave as soon as the new year began since they would be moving to the US in accordance with their custody arrangement.
Shakira, however, couldn't resist criticizing her former Barcelona defender ex in a New Year's post about cheating and heartbreak.
She posted on Instagram, "Although someone has betrayed us we should continue to trust. Faced with scorn, continue to value ourselves."
Antonella Roccuzzo, the spouse of Lionel Messi, also supported Shakira by reacting to her tweet with three heart emojis.
