Many fans are still sad almost two years after Daft Punk announced their disbandment, but they recently dropped a very rare video of their previous performance in the late 90s, proving that they were ahead of any musician's time because of their modernity and a fresh new take on music.

According to Music MXDWN, the French duo, Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo released a performance video of their song "Rollin & Scratching." The clip is rare as the two were showcased without their iconic masks.

Initially, it was a part of their Twitch live stream last year to celebrate the group's first year of disbandment and the 25th anniversary of their first album "Homework," but the pair ultimately decided to release it to the public. (watch the performance video below)

The video was filmed during the duo's performance at the Mayan Theater in Los Angeles in 1997.

Daft Punk's Legacy Through The Years

A few weeks ago, Bangalter's father, Daniel Vangarde, spoke to NME to react to his son's success, saying he never knew his son would follow his career path as a musician.

When the record producer was young, his mother wanted him to take piano lessons from a teacher in the Opera of Paris. At the time, Vangarde spoke to the teacher to discuss whether he was good or not.

The instructor then told him that he was "okay" with playing the piano, but "he has a great sense of rhythm that makes people want to dance."

Bangalter later met de Homem-Christo and their common denominator was cinema. Vangarde said the other member only came to the studio with him once and it was good because he thought the musician would have never found his unique sound as a member of Daft Punk.

Speaking about how the duo became popular and successful, Bangalter's father said they did exactly what they wanted without any filters.

On February 22, 2021, Daft Punk shocked fans after posting a video titled "Epilogue" showing a scene from their 2006 movie, "Electroma." At the end of the clip, the title card reads "1993-1991." (via The Guilfordian)

Their publicist, Kathryn Frazier, later confirmed that it was the end of an era for the duo after releasing music for over 28 years.

Throughout their careers, the pair were able to perform in different cities around the world and managed to win six Grammy Awards.
