Bob Seger has long since come back from his absence on the road but it's still nice for fans to know that the rock icon is still in the mood for making new music. The performer confirmed Monday that he would be putting out a new record titled Ride Out on October 14. It's the first album of new material from Seger since 2006's The Promise.
"I feel really good about this record," he said. "This album touches on how I think a lot of us feel about finding our place in a more complicated world-from how we appreciate things as simple and pure as love, to navigating through the corruption and violence that permeates the news. It sums up a lot of feelings I have about a variety of subjects."
Eight years seems like a long time between albums, but it's still nothing on the 11-year gap between 1995's It's A Mystery and The Promise.
Fans probably had a hunch that something was in the works when Seger debuted "All The Roads" while on tour during 2013. Seger also released a new single on the radio over the weekend, more or less confirming that a new record would be be coming soon. "Detroit Made," the new single and a reference to Seger's hometown, is a cover of a John Hiatt track. Also featured on the album, according to the press release, is a cover of Wilco and Billy Bragg's "California Stars."
Fans of Seger should consider seeing him the next time they have a chance. Although no indication is made that this would be his last album, you can't help but wonder with a title such as Ride Out.
