Young Thug's highly-awaited and high-profile RICO trial will be taking place next week, Jan. 9, 2023.

According to Axios, the jury selection for Young Thug's trial is already underway, which targets the alleged leader, Young Thug, and 13 other associates of the alleged YSL Records/Gang.

Other associates of the alleged gang had already taken a plea deal, including Gunna and a few more.

Young Thug Trial Witnesses

The publication noted that Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis told reporters last May 2022 that gangs were responsible for almost 80% of the violent crimes in Atlanta, Georgia.

The charges against Young Thug range from murder to aggravated assault to possession of illegal drugs. The prosecution has even listed more than 370 witnesses on the list, including rapper Lil Wayne.

Thug's nemesis, YFN Lucci, was even rumored to be appearing on the stand in exchange for a lower sentence on his own RICO case. However, his lawyer debunked the rumors.

"Any party can announce for example, that Abraham Lincoln is on their witness list, but those words alone are meaningless. So, to be 100% clear, Rayshawn Bennett (Lucci) will not be a witness in the YSL case," he told TMZ.

Young Thug Trial Charges

It was estimated that the high-profile trial could take around half a year to a whole year as jury selection takes weeks already.

According to Uproxx, these are Young Thug's criminal charges:

  • one count of conspiracy to violate Georgia's Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act,
  • possession of a firearm while committing a felony,
  • possession of a machine gun,
  • two counts of participating in a criminal street activity,
  • three counts of violating the Georgia Controlled Substances Act,
  • and one charge of street racing.

Last December, the hip-hop community and onlookers of the trial were shocked as Gunna, Young Thug's frequent collaborator and an alleged key member of the YSL gang, and a few others have taken a plea deal on the case.

"While I have agreed to always be truthful, I want to make it perfectly clear that I have NOT made any statements, have NOT been interviewed, have NOT cooperated, have NOT agreed to testify or be a witness for or against any party in the case and have absolutely NO intention of being involved in the trial process in any way," Gunna said in a statement.

The hip-hop community egged the rapper a few days after he was announced to have taken a plea deal, saying that he snitched on his crew members.
