The world is mourning after the sudden death of guitar legend Jeff Beck, but little did his fans know that he got involved in an accident decades ago that almost harmed his entire career; what happened?
According to Grunge, the musician was named one of the greatest guitarists of all time. His career skyrocketed in 1965 after replacing Eric Clapton in the band, Yardbirds.
He became a part of the group for almost two years and he later founded The Jeff Beck Group along with other iconic musicians like Ronnie Wood, Rod Stewart, Tony Newman, and Nicky Hopkins.
Although they became successful, they canceled their appearance at the legendary Woodstock Festival and the reason was that Beck could "see the end of the tunnel."
In 1969, just after turning down the offer to join the Rolling Stones, Jeff Beck got involved in an accident that almost put an end to his career.
In his memoir "Beck 01: Hot Rods and Rock 'n' Roll," the guitarist noted that the accident had a long-lasting impact on him and it took him a while before getting back on track.
"After the crash, it took me a while to get back into music but it did prompt the second Jeff Beck Group," he wrote.
At the time, he noted that he had bashed his head and got a fractured skull, which took a toll on his career because he was performing most of the time, but he couldn't stand "loud noises at all" , even the sound of cymbals.
Despite the car accident, the outlet noted that building cars were one of his passions outside of music. Beck would collect vintage cars that he built himself like Ford from the 1930s, Chevy Corvettes, and many more.
More recently, a shocking news made rounds online as his official social media accounts announced his death.
"On behalf of his family, it is with deep and profound sadness that we share the news of Jeff Beck's passing," the statement reads.
Beck reportedly died after contracting bacterial meningitis and he peacefully passed away.
"His family ask for privacy while they process this tremendous loss," the statement from his representative concluded.
Throughout his career, Beck amassed massive fame and he was often regarded as one of the greatest musicians of all time because of his talent.
