For fans of the early 2000s or pop culture in general, many would not forget about the iconic MTV Video Music Awards performance of Madonna, Britney Spears, and Christina Aguilera in 2003, but little did they know that another big artist was also supposed to be a part of the show; what happened?

Speaking to E! News to promote her upcoming film "Shotgun Wedding," Jennifer Lopez confirmed the ongoing rumors that she was the first choice to perform along the Queen and Princess of pop that evening, but had to be replaced by Aguilera.

JLo explained that she already met Madonna and Britney to discuss the performance at the former's home. However, despite talking about the then-upcoming show, the singer/actress had no choice but to decline the offer because she was filming a movie in Canada.

"I just couldn't get off the film, so we couldn't do it. Then they got Christina Aguilera, I think, to do it. I didn't wind up doing it, but yeah, we had talked about it " she explained before commending the "Material Girl" hitmaker, saying she's always been a "huge" fan.

In other updates, Jennifer's upcoming movie "Shotgun Wedding" revolves around the two lead characters gathering their families for their wedding, but the ceremony got canceled because of armed men taking everyone hostage.

Along with Josh Duhamel, Jennifer Coolidge, Lenny Kravitz, and more, the movie will be available for streaming on Prime Video starting January 27, 2023.

The Iconic MTV VMA 2003 Moment

Even though JLo never made it as one of the performers, Christina Aguilera saved the day and ultimately replaced her. Along with Madonna and Britney, the three delivered what turned out to be one of the most iconic performances in pop culture history.

During the show, the "Like A Virgin" songstress and the "Sometimes" hitmaker shared a kiss on national television which shocked live audiences as well as viewers at home.

They were singing "Hollywood" and then it transitioned into Missy Elliott's special appearance. At the time, the pop royalty also did the kiss with Christina Aguilera.

At the time, when Britney and Madonna were kissing, the camera immediately cut to the reaction of Justin Timberlake, who'd broken up with Spears the year before, in the audience.
