Metallica's James Hetfield confirmed the true meaning of their upcoming LP's song, "Screaming Suicide."
One of the biggest rock bands in history is set to come back with its 11th studio album, "72 Seasons." Confirmed on Nov. 28 through the single "Lux Æterna," Metallica has been hyping fans about the album as it revealed that the band would release its full version on April 14 through Blackened Recordings.
Before the album's official arrival, the band dropped another song from the album, "Screaming Suicide." It became their latest music project seven years after dropping its last studio album.
On Friday, the Metallica frontman penned a statement (via Billboard) in which he explained the meaning of their new song.
According to Hetfield, the track addresses the "taboo word of suicide."
"The intention is to communicate about the darkness we feel inside," the singer said, according to Rolling Stone. "It's ridiculous to think we should deny that we have these thoughts. At one point or another I believe most people have thought about it. To face it is to speak the unspoken. If it's a human experience, we should be able to talk about it. You are not alone."
Director Tim Saccenti directed the black-and-white music video for "Screaming Suicide." The description of the video on Metallica's YouTube channel also listed suicide prevention agencies across the world.
Hetfield previously opened up about the album, saying that the concept is about who the members were during the first 18 years of their lives.
He and Lars Ulrich worked together to co-produce the 12-song album, which runs for 77 minutes, alongside Greg Fidelman.
