David Crosby once said he still loved his ex-girlfriend, who is actually a renowned singer.
Crosby's past drug use resurfaced after his recent passing. His wife, Jan Dance, confirmed his death in a statement to Variety, saying the singer died Wednesday night.
"He was lovingly surrounded by his wife and soulmate Jan and son Django," the family also said in a statement obtained by CNN. "Although he is no longer here with us, his humanity and kind soul will continue to guide and inspire us. His legacy will continue to live on through his legendary music."
Crosby and Dance were married for 36 years. Despite their inspiring love story, the late singer revealed before his death that he still loved his ex-girlfriend, Joni Mitchell.
In a 2019 interview, per New York Post, he revealed that he was still into Mitchell after she broke up with him and dated his Crosby, Stills & Nash bandmate, Graham Nash.
Crosby admitted he still loved her, saying that their relationship was "thorny but good."
In his 2019 documentary "Remember My Name," the singer opened up about Mitchell dumping him through the song she wrote. His ex then moved on with Nash and wrote the 1971 song "River," in which she said he was "making her weak in the knees."
Around 50 years after their breakup, Crosby said they still talked to each other and had dinner with her at her place.
While his love for Mitchell never faded, Crosby's drug addiction eventually vanished.
David Crosby's Drug, Alcohol Issues
In 1983, Crosby was infamously arrested on drug and weapon charges while he was addicted to heroin and cocaine. He tried to flee and avoid imprisonment, but he later turned himself in and served five months of jail time in 1986.
Crosby then revealed that his time in prison helped him get rid of drugs in his life.

The singer started abusing drugs during the start of his career with Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. It got worse when his girlfriend died in a car accident.
Over a year before his passing, Crosby received an inquiry from a fan who asked him if he was already clean. According to the singer, he still smoked pot at that time but considered himself sober in the past 14 and a half years.
He also said that his real problem was hard drugs, which he freed himself from in the past four decades.
