To the dismay of the band's enormous and devoted fan base, Brendon Urie of Panic! At The Disco announced earlier this year that the Las Vegas pop-punk outfit he fronted and established over 20 years ago would be calling it quits.
P!ATD, who had previously traveled across North America for seven weeks on their Viva La Vengeance Tour, left for a last run of 12 stadium gigs in Europe and the UK before announcing their separation. The whole tour's sound reinforcement equipment was provided by Eighth Day Sound, a Clair Global brand, and it includes two DiGiCo Quantum7 consoles for front-of-house and monitor mixing tasks.
Two seasoned members of the band's crew, FOH engineer Spencer Jones of Portland, Oregon, and monitor engineer Jeremy "Spud" Groshong of Chicago, both of whom have worked for the band for the past ten years, were in charge of the tour's control surfaces. Jones combined his console with two SD-Racks for I/O and an SD-MiNi Rack for various outboard kit. Jones says that with 13 musicians onstage-four members of the main band, three string players, three horns, and three auxiliary musicians-he routinely dealt with approximately 90 inputs from the stage, all of which the Quantum7 was able to handle with ease.
Groshong operated a Quantum7 monitor console with an additional pair of SD-Racks on the opposite end of the Optocore loop. It was a great experience! Groshong claims that without monitor wedges onstage, he used his Quantum7 to transmit 19 stereo mixes, a cue, and five cues to the 13 musicians and five techs using Shure PSM 1000 IEM devices.
Still, their parting has still left fans reeling up to present.
The breakup of their favorite band is terrible and heartbreaking news for fans, especially die-hard ones, as the band that supported them throughout their childhood and helped them through difficult times no longer releases new music. Rarely, even the biggest fans of a band will agree with them if they decide to disband because they have been exposed for their inappropriate activities and conduct throughout the years in the music industry.
Some blame Urie entirely. One can only recall Urie's alleged crimes of sexual misconduct and assault, with claims ranging from individuals coming forward with accounts of him touching underage followers improperly to him sharing nudes without consent. The hashtag "#BrendonUrieSpeakUp" started to gain popularity after Brendon didn't respond to the stories that had surfaced.
