Somebody rained on Elton John's parade in Auckland, New Zealand.
The music icon is taking his final tour on the road down under. However, as he tried to hope for clear skies, he was met with rather unwelcome weather in Auckland.
According to NME, the country's biggest city, Auckland, was met with massive flooding on the day of John's official concert. The flooding was caused by a heavy downpour of rain - said to have been a summer's worth of rain.
Airports were said to be shut down, and buildings were overflowing with rainwater because of the heavy flooding.
John had to prioritize the welfare of his fans in Auckland as they only canceled the show 15 minutes before he was set to hit the stage. It was reported that around 40,000 loyal Elton John fans gathered outside Mt. Smart Stadium, on Jan. 27, 2023, for his "Farewell Yellow Brick Road" Tour.
Elton John fans, however, have vocally expressed their displeasure on how sudden the announcement was.
"I'm furious. It was raining heavily on the way to the stadium and I kept checking for announcements but nothing came, despite puddles being up to my ankles," a fan angrily told Sky News.
The fan also mentioned that after the concert was called off, hundreds of fans were soaking wet in the heavy downpour as they tried to queue on the shuttle buses. Some fans were reported to have been chanting the Rocket Man's name, urging him to continue the show, but the venue was so flooded it became like a "literal river," the fan revealed.
This was actually the third time that Elton John's New Zealand concert was canceled in the past three years.
Videos of fans walking on knee-high floods and braving the heavy winds and storm have been all over social media - with many still voicing out the unpleasant experience just to see the icon live.
"Waited 3 years for this @eltonofficial rescheduled gig to be cancelled 20mins before thanks to flooding & torrential rain in Auckland. It's going to be a shit fight to get home. This whole thing has been a shit show thanks to @AklTransport. Should have been canceled hours ago!" a fan tweeted, along with a photo of the PSA on one of the concert screens.
