Valentina Trespalacios' DJ career was on the rise, but her life was suddenly cut short-and her boyfriend is now charged with her murder.
News of the death of a popular young DJ sent shockwaves throughout Colombia, fans and citizens of Colombia are demanding answers, given the brutality she faced during the final minutes of her life.
According to the Bogota Post, Trespalacio's body was found inside a blue suitcase discarded in Fontibon-on the outskirts of Bogota- on Jan. 22; the local authority has named a man romantically linked to her, John Poulos, the prime suspect in her murder.
Puolos is a 35-year-old man who hails from Wisconsin, USA. Colombian authorities alerted Interpol about his crimes after, and thus was extradited back to Colombia for the case.
Poulos was found at Panama's Tocumen International Airport, where he was suspected of leaving for Panama, CNN reported.
It is worth noting that New York Post reported that he had scratches on his face when he was apprehended.
Not much is known about Poulos's relationship with the 23-year-old DJ, and his lawyers have insisted that he had nothing to do with her slaying.
He alleged that a drug cartel was the one who killed the DJ, and he was simply trying to escape them.
However, according to the Colombian Prosecutor's Office, local authorities have obtained more than 300 hours worth of security footage of Poulos with Trespalacios days before her body was found.
Local authorities noted that Trespalacio's manner of death was a homicide due to "mechanical asphyxia" or strangulation.
As of this writing, Poulos is charged with murder, but his legal camp argues that due process was not respected during the time of his arrest. His hearing is slated for Jan. 31.

On The Rise
Before her death, the DJ was living her best life-her career was on the rise, she was with the man she loved, and she was even about to get married.
"I handed you over my only daughter, why did you have to return her in the trash?" wept Laura Hidalgo, Trespalacio's mother.
According to Billboard, Trespalacios was one of Colombia's promising DJs, engaged in the guaracha and dance genres.
"We are shocked by the violent death of Valentina. She was a dreamer, a skilled DJ and potential producer who was working on several projects, including an album," David Sarria told Billboard. He is the creator of Black & White, one of the popular music festivals held in the country.
"She was approximately four years into her DJ career," said her uncle Carlos Trespalacios, "She had done very well, she had a very promising future, so much so that she hung out all over the country, in the best nightclubs. She also went to many parts of South America."
