Kanye West has made some pretty questionable decisions with regard to his music career, not including his collaborations or the subject themes of his songs - but his behavior with other artists alone warrants a whole list.
Perhaps the most controversial decision and by far the most embarrassing one was his infamous moment with Taylor Swift during the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards.
The show-stopping moment cemented its way as the most controversial moment in the music industry.

At the time, Swift won the Best Female Video for "You Belong With Me," beating Kelly Clarkson's "My Life Would Suck Without You," Katy Perry's "Hot N Cold," Lady Gaga's "Poker Face," Pink's "So What," and Beyonce's "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)."
Ultimately, Swift won, but it seemed like West did not agree with the result.
"Yo, Taylor, I'm really happy for you," he bolted onstage, grabbing Swift's microphone and shouting. "I'ma let you finish, but Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time! One of the best videos of all time!"
Taylor Swift and Beyonce were embarrassed and were lost for words after Kanye's shocking stint. Since then, Swift and Kanye have been waging war with each other. When Beyonce took home the VMA for Video of the Year, she invited Swift to take on the stage to finish her speech.

Now, Consequence, a close collaborator of Kanye West, opened up to HipHoDX a part of West's thought process after the infamous encounter onstage with Swift.
According to the rapper, Kanye immediately regretted the decision, mulling over that his interruption might have cost him his music career. West faced a litany of immense backlash, including then-President Barack Obama calling him a "jackass" for his stint.
With the help of Consequence and his very own music label, GOOD Music, West decided to do the weekly GOOD Friday music releases. However, for Consequence, these are not enough to rehabilitate Kanye West's music career.
"It doesn't eradicate the Taylor Swift incident. It's not big enough to K.O. that. Brands ain't gonna forget that, touring ain't gonna forget that, so forth and so on. So which put Kanye in a corner, and he came out flying with G.O.O.D. Fridays," he revealed to the outlet.
In a 2020 event, Kanye confessed that after the backlash, he had his self-exile, which led him to reevaluate things and his decisions, which could ultimately impact his career.
Rolling Stone has since called the 2009 VMAs incident one of the "worst decisions in music history."
