Buying your favorite artists' clothes has been a normal practice for fans, especially if it's in an auction. However, would one still purchase if the artist you're stanning would auction their undergarments for a hefty price?
Latto's fans would clearly spend over 100,000 dollars for her used panties on eBay.
Last Monday, a Twitter user posted two photos of the rapper with the caption, "Can't afford new panties?" In the photos, Latto's panties are cheetah-printed and worn on two different occasions.
The rapper retorted, saying, "Oh no, it's the panty police." After her rather funny response, she went on to Instagram stories to record a video of her panty drawers.
"In light of my panty discrepancy yesterday, I've decided to give you guys an inside look at my panty drawer. These are all my Target panties that caused such a discrepancy yesterday. $5 at Target, here's the cheetah stash," she said in the video per Complex.
After the video, she immediately followed up with a link to an eBay auction of the said panty. Latto's panties on eBay started bidding at $0.99.
Fans have lauded the rapper for flipping over the "embarrassing" tweet, making the auction to her advantage.
As per NME, the bidding quickly rose to huge numbers. It was even reported that the bid reached around $95,650, a bid for over a hundred people.
However, eBay got a hold of what was going on in social media when a user tagged the e-commerce platform, asking them about their used clothes policy.
Afterward, eBay responded, emphasizing its policy on selling used garments online.
"eBay is committed to maintaining a safe and vibrant community by ensuring goods sold on our platform comply with our policies, including our health and hygiene standards. Listings that include used underwear are prohibited under our used clothing policy," eBay said in a statement.
Shortly after, Latto's panties listing on eBay was taken down, with fans taking their frustration on social media.
As of this writing, Latto has yet to address the removal of her panties listing on eBay. She has remained mum on the issue since.
On Sunday, Latto is slated to attend the 2023 Grammys at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California. She has been nominated for two Grammys - Best New Artist and Best Melodic Rap Performance for "Big Energy (Live)."
