Taylor Hawkins' teenage son, Shane, scored an award following his emotional and notable performances during the tribute concerts for the late Foo Fighters drummer.

Following Taylor Hawkins' death on March 25, Foo Fighters arranged the all-star Taylor Hawkins Tribute concerts to pay tribute to the late drummer. A number of special guests filled in and played the drums in the band's songs, including Josh Freese (on "Times Like These" and "All My Life"), Travis Barker (on "The Pretender" and "Monkey Wrench"), Nandi Bushnell (on "Learn to Fly"), Rufus Taylor (on "These Days" and "Best of You"), and Omar Hakim (on "Aurora").

But out of all the drummers, Hawkins' son Shane, who joined Foo Fighters on drums for its "My Hero" performance, moved everyone.

The 17-year-old's performance led him to win the 2022 Drumeo Awards' Drum Performance of the Year. The recognition is being given to musicians who put on a must-watch performance with a full band at an event or in a solo studio video in 2022.

"16-year-old Shane Hawkins did just that, pouring his heart and soul into a live performance of 'My Hero' at a tribute concert dedicated to his late father and Foo Fighters drummer, Taylor Hawkins," the award-giving body said. "It touched millions of people and showed how much love, energy, and spirit can come out on the drum kit."

Other winners include Red Hot Chili Peppers' Chad Smith (drummer of the year), Travis Barker (rock drummer of the year), Genesis' Phil Collins (Buddy Rich Award), Fred Eltringham (country drummer of the year), Terri Lyne Carrington (jazz drummer of the year), Slipknot's Jay Weinberg (drum recording of the year), and Sarah Jones (pop drummer of the year), among others.

Shane Made Everyone Cry With His "My Hero" Performance

Following his performance, musicians and Foo Fighters fans said they got emotional while watching Shane. Former Police drummer Stewart Copeland joined them, saying he started crying when he saw the young man fill in for his late father.

He told CBS Mornings that it was the most emotional moment of the whole Taylor Hawkins' tribute concerts.

"He's got it. He's got such power, enthusiasm. He's got his father's stance, musical language. That was really emotional to see young Shane up there," Copeland continued.

Taylor Hawkins' cause of death was cardiovascular collapse. The findings revealed that his heart weighed double that of an average man at the time of his death. A urine toxicology test was also done, discovering 10 substances in his system, including opioids, THC, tricyclic antidepressants, and benzodiazepines.
