Jack Harlow has recently been on a very successful journey; just last week, he was presented with a major honor in Louisville, Kentucky, where he was raised.

The rapper of "First Class" visited a Greater Louisville Inc. (GLI) gathering on Wednesday. The Thomas A. Edison Award was given to the 24-year-old.

The high-status award recognizes Jack's accomplishments both on and off the main stage, as well as his dedication to standing up for his hometown.

During his acceptance speech, Jack said, via Uproxx, "People ask me where I live and I tell them I don't live in Atlanta or New York. I don't live in California. I live in Louisville, Kentucky."

"I try to make sure I let the world know if you want to do a photo shoot, if you want to take a meeting, if you want to shoot a commercial, if you want to get in the studio and make some music you're going to have to book that connection flight and come."

The "WHATS POPPIN" hitmaker also promised the audience they would do "incredible things" in Louisville.

How Did Jack Harlow Start Making Music?

When he was 12 years old, Jack Harlow-real name Jackman Thomas Harlow-moved to Louisville and began rapping with his friend Sharath. To record the music and rhythm, they utilized a laptop and a Hero microphone.

The first CD they offered for sale at Highland Middle School was "Rippin & Rappin." He asked his mother for advice on how to become a great rapper, and she suggested "practicing."

The first mixtape he produced was under the name "Mr". He later created the group "Gang Moose" and produced two additional mixtapes, but they were never made public until recently. "Moose Gang" and "Music for the Deaf" were the titles of these mixtapes.

Jack then began posting more songs to Soundcloud, Facebook, and YouTube.

After selling out nearby venues at the age of 14, Jack caught the interest of a record company and music executive. He was still in high school at the time.

In 2015, he joined the group Hip Hop Cutthroat Boyz and opened for Vince Staples in Louisville.

Under sonaBLAST Gill Holland, Jack released his debut studio album and EP, "The Handsome Harlow," in the same year.

A producer named Syk Sense was drawn to the EP and later created Jack's most recent song, "Never Woulda Known."

Under Private Garden, he released a second mixtape titled "18". Additionally, he worked with well-known rappers and vocalists including 2forwOyNE, Shloob, and Quiiso.

Jack made the decision to forego college and concentrate on his music career. He played at many music gatherings.

By 2017, he has released the single "Routine" and the music video for "Dark Knight." The latter became the album's lead song, from "Gazebo," his mixtape.

2018 saw the signing of Jack Harlow to a record deal with DJ Drama and Generation Now. He released "Loose" as his debut mixtape for the major label record a few days after releasing the music video for "Sundown" on the same day.

The album was nominated for Best Mixtape at the 2019 BET Hip Hop Awards.

But it was in January 2020 when he released "WHATS POPPIN," which became a viral song on TikTok, that helped Jack Harlow boost his popularity.

In August 2020, the song was used in over 400,000 TikTok videos, and in October 2022, over 100 million viewers saw the music video. The song hit several charts and was certified five times platinum.

In December 2020, he published his debut album, "That's What They All Say," and it quickly rose to the top of the charts. The RIAA awarded the album Gold Certification.

In 2020, Jack put out an album with seven tracks, one of which had G-Eazy on it.

His "WHATS POPPIN" remix presented other rappers such as Lil Wayne, Tory Lanez, and DaBaby. That same year, Jack Harlow became part of XXL's Freshman Class.

And the rest is history.
