Grimes is equally frustrated that Charli XCX was not nominated for a Grammy.
After the singer expressed her disappointment at not being nominated for a Grammy on Sunday, she sent Charli XCX her well wishes and support.
The British singer reflected on the fact that she did not receive any nominations for her album Crash in 2022 via social media as the Grammy Awards began to be presented on Sunday.
She compared the snub to the fact that Mia Goth did not receive recognition for her performance in the horror film Pearl. "Me not being nominated for a grammy for crash is like mia goth not being nominated for an oscar for pearl and only further proves that people don't wanna see hot evil girls thrive," she wrote beside a selfie.
Grimes offered her advice to Charli in the comments section, telling her not to "sweat" about the snub because, in her opinion, the yearly awards presentation is "irrelevant."
"I stopped even clocking them in any capacity when I Was on the producer of the year board and they quite literally would not allow me to nominate anyone who wasn't on a pre fabricated list that was exceptionally boring," she alleged. "I was one of 3 women and the only person under 40 for sure. It's literally not a relevant thing. I tried to nominate (late music producer) Sophie and was told that wasn't allowed."
Charli also got support from Paris Hilton, who responded with fire emojis, and Christine Quinn, who played a role on Selling Sunset and referred to Charli as a "queen."
Grimes seems to be referring to the notorious "secret committees" that the Grammys utilized until 2021, when they were eliminated.
According to The Fader, The Weeknd even boycotted the group in 2021 because of its supposedly crooked voting method. This renders Grimes' statement regarding the Producer of the Year board unsurprising, but her supposedly unsuccessful attempt to nominate Sophie is extremely devastating.
Sophie, who died in January 2021, was a groundbreaking trans music producer and musician who created music for Charli XCX, Kim Petras, Madonna, and others.
The last woman to be nominated for Producer of the Year at the Grammys was Linda Perry in 2019 after a longgg 15-year gap since a woman had been in the running for the award. Worse, it has never been awarded to a woman,
