Apart from the musical triumph that many have been witnessing at the Grammy Awards throughout the years, another special moment that artists have celebrated at the show was the friendship and camaraderie that can be formed when meeting your fellow musicians and artists.
At the 2023 Grammy Awards, the world witnessed a special friendship that they never saw coming - Adele and The Rock!
In the past, Adele had been public with her fascination with The Rock, especially growing as a huge wrestling fan.
"Someone that I've never met that I think I would actually cry is The Rock," she told NikkieTutorials in 2021. She gushed that she even nearly fell off the chair when The Rock sent her flowers when he could not attend one of her own shows.
During the Grammys, the two finally met and bonded really joyously.
In Grammy host Trevor Noah's opening monologue, he told everyone a secret that he himself had only known moments before the show started.
"This is one of the strangest things I found out. The person that Adele has always wanted to meet, but never has, is Dwayne Johnson...I found out he's a huge fan of yours, too," he said before asking The Rock to come and meet Adele.
The two's encounter wasn't the last one that night. The Rock came with her singer-songwriter wife, Lauren Hashian, to support him being a presenter on the show.
To make matters even better for Adele, The Rock presented the winner for the Best Pop Solo Performance category - a category where Adele's smash hit "Easy on Me" was nominated.
As he opened the envelope, The Rock announced this: "Get up here, best friend, Adele!' asking the British songstress to get her award for the category.
Adele got six nominations last Sunday, including Album of the Year, Song of the Year, and Record of the Year, but only won in the Best Pop Solo Performance category.
The Rock revealed to Variety how they came about with the surprise.
"We were trying to figure out something to do that was going to be fun and surprise her, and we had kicked around ideas all week," he confessed. "The key to a surprise like that is to actually keep it a surprise. Myself and the Grammys went to great lengths to make sure that Adele was authentically surprised in the moment, and she was."
